Circular chess with Publicius chess pieces

Versions of circular chess were played sporadically in Europe through the medieval period; and modern circular chess is played on a similar board. Circular chess has the same number of "squares" as the standard 8 x 8 board, and moves are made in the same way.

Specifications for the illustrated set:

• Hand-painted board, 15.5" diameter
• Pieces turned and carved from beech wood
• White pieces are the natural wood colour; black pieces are stained
• All pieces are sanded, but not oiled, waxed or varnished
• King is 1" diameter at the base
• King is 2.75" tall
• Pieces are supplied in a drawstring pouch
