This board is typical of those of the sixteenth century, and our reproduction is based on the find from Henry VIII's warship, the Mary Rose, which sank in the Solent in 1545. An approximate price for this set would be in the region of £270.
The board is constructed of two leaves, with a raised border with lap-jointed corners. The leaves are rectangular so that together the board is more or less square. The points are inlaid with alternate coloured woods (box and yew).
Playing pieces are of natural (white) and stained (black) beech wood; and these are supplied, with three bone dice, in a drawstring pouch.
