19 in stock.
Four modern wood dice 16mm square; in a cotton drawstring pouch 6 x 13cm; with rules to six dice games played from the Tudor period onward.
Dice games diversified considerably from the Tudor period onward, and Elizabeth I is known to have been very fond of gambling with both cards and dice, as were many of her subjects. Much Elizabethan literature makes mention of dice games, many of which are likely to have been known in the earlier part of the Tudor period, and archaeological finds of dice, loaded and fair, are numerous. Unfortunately the rules of many of those named during this period have not survived. The few that have though, are excellent games, and continued to be played well into the eighteenth century, many being particularly popular amongst soldiers of the English Civil War. The rules of six games are included here, all well worth playing today.
